The Stockton Asparagus Festival has been a tradition in Stockton for the last 29 years. Since its first year, the Asparagus Festival has contributed over $5.9 million dollars in donations to local charities. However, 2014 marked the last year the Asparagus Festival would be seen in Stockton due to the dwindling attendance over the past few years. Although the Festival did not remain in Stockton to celebrate its 30th year, the tradition of the festival will be kept alive at the county fairgrounds in San Joaquin for 2015!
New promoters Tony and Carol Noceti of Noceti Group, Inc., are determined to preserve the San Joaquin Asparagus Festival and give back to the community. They hope to produce a festival that’s bigger and better than ever. The San Joaquin Asparagus festival will be held at the county fairgrounds April 17, 18, and 19. The festival will provide unique appetizing asparagus refreshments, revised admission prices, kids zone with a carnival, games, petting zoo and free activities for the kids. Prominent musical acts will perform throughout the weekend, and a community stage will focus on a variety of local performers, as well as an Asparagus eating competition. While at the festival, you can also enjoy Asparagus Alley, pick up some healthy habits at the Health & Wellness Fair, bring the kids to see the San Joaquin Asparagus Festival Parade, check out the shiny chrome at the Car Show, and quench your thirst at the Draft Beer and Wine Pavilion. The Fairgrounds will be bustling with excitement and fun for the whole family!
You may be asking yourself, Why an asparagus festival? San Joaquin County has a history of being an important part of the Agriculture Industry, and since it leads California in fresh market asparagus production, there couldn’t be a better location! The festival is a great opportunity to show off the abundance of the healthy vegetables growing locally while supporting the community! Asparagus is also beneficial to our health in many ways, serving as a great source of fiber, glutathione, and antioxidants. The vegetable is great for our cognitive brain functions. And, of course, it tastes delicious!
